On our drive from Spokane to Bellingham (which is in Northwestern Washington), we decided to take a little detour and stop and see Snoqualmie Falls. I had seen another couple of bloggers that I follow make a stop there during their trip to Seattle, so I thought since it was on our way, it would be a nice little break for us to see it.
There were quite a bit of people there to see the falls that day, even for a Monday. However, it was summertime, so sights like that are always going to be more busy!
We were lucky enough to snag a parking spot in the lower lot, but they also have additional parking across the street. Parking is free! Visiting the falls is free! This is a completely free activity – aside from the gas you spend driving there of course.
The falls were pretty. I mean, it’s pretty hard to go wrong with a waterfall right? At least in my experience. According to the Snoqualmie Falls website, the Native Americans who once roamed the valley were known as people of the moon. Snoqualmie is even the English pronunciation of a Salish word meaning moon. I wonder how beautiful this place is in the moonlight?
If you’re interested in staying overnight in the area, the Salish Lodge & Spa sits right at the top of the falls – can’t beat that huh?
We snapped some photos of the lovely 270-foot waterfall and walked around for a bit. I stopped in the gift shop to snatch up a magnet (I’m collecting magnets for a travel project I intend to eventually put up on my wall).
All in all, we weren’t really there for very long since we had a destination to reach that day, but if you’re visiting Seattle area, I would definitely recommend packing a picnic and making the short trip out to see the falls. It’s not too far of a drive!
